Frequently Asked Questions

What is counselling?

A person usually seeks counselling because they are unable to resolve specific or long term problems. The counsellor helps the client to explore and understand these problems, and the best means of resolving them. A professional relationship is maintained at all times.

How long is each session?

Each session is 50 minutes long.

How much will it cost?

The fee for the initial and subsequent sessions is £75 per hour and £120 for couples. Payment is by cash or cheque and must be made at the time of the session.

How long will the course of therapy take?

This varies according to the client's needs. Problems are rarely solved in one session, but short term counselling (between 3 and 10 sessions) can be of great benefit. The length of long term counselling is less easy to predict.

Is therapy confidential?

The relationship between a counsellor and a client is in the strictest confidence and is a sine qua non. This aspect of trust between the counsellor and h/her client is non-negotiable.

What can I expect from my first session?

In one session, the client will usually be able to tell whether they are comfortable with the counsellor, and what type of therapy will suit them. Different options will be discussed.
